2019 LAX DAY IN SASK
The 2nd Annual Lax Day in Saskatchewan was held on February 9th, 2019 at the SaskTel Center in Saskatoon! The day was dedicated to celebrating Lacrosse at all levels!
The day started with the Tyke and Novice groups taking the field for their on floor session with Coaches from all over Saskatchewan. Players were able to work on the fundamentals of Lacrosse, passing, shooting, catching, and shooting. After working on their fundamentals they were able to enjoy a short scrimmage and have a personal tour of the Rush Locker room. After the Tyke and Novice session, Pee Wee players joined them on the field to listen to guest speakers, Jeff Shattler and Zach Gould to hear about all the opportunities can provide them! After the guest speakers it was the Pee Wee groups turn to take the field for the Try Lacrosse clinic! All players left with a Lax Day in Sask Shirt and medal and brand new water bottle courtesy of Subway.
The best way to finish off Lax Day in Sask was to cheer on our very own Saskatchewan Rush as they took on the Calgary Roughnecks. The Rush wanted to ensure the Lacrosse celebration continued by including minor Lacrosse players in all aspects of the game. Each Rush player ran out onto the field with a minor Lacrosse player prior to the game. Each minor player represented a minor Lacrosse Association or program under the Sask Lacrosse umbrella, ensuring all parts of the province were represented. Around the Flag during the National Anthem spectators found our Tyke, Novice, and Pee Wee players that took part in the Try Lacrosse clinic during the day, and members of the 2018 Team Sask program. During half time Tyke and Novice players from the clinic and Saskatoon took the floor to show of their skills with their own scrimmage with guest players the Subway Monkey, the Hulk, and Bruiser! The Saskatchewan Rush also made a special video for the occasion thanking all the Coaches and Officials that make minor Lacrosse possible in Saskatchewan!
All in all it was a great day of Lacrosse and we can't wait until next year! The SLA would like to thank all our Volunteers and our sponsors Subway and the Saskatchewan Rush for making Lax Day in Sask possible!
