Return to Lacrosse Plan (PLAN UPDATED AS OF JULY 1)

Jun. 19, 2020

On June 16th, 2020 the Saskatchewan Provincial Government announced that sport and recreation activities could resume outdoors on June 22nd.  We are very excited to get Lacrosse back going in Saskatchewan since having to put our season on pause in mid March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Lacrosse is an integral part of Saskatchewan’s society and sport and recreation Sectors.   Lacrosse at all levels and abilities makes an important contribution to the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of individuals.  At a population level, benefits of Lacrosse include direct economic benefits; healthcare benefits; educational benefits; and contribution to social capital through connectivity, resilience and creating stronger, cohesive communities.

In the past three months we have missed the game we love and all our families and are excited to be together again!  Lacrosse is a gift from the creator and our Indigenous Ancestors that brings people together, it is a medicine game which is especially important during these times.    Working with our Provincial Health Authorities, Sask Sport. other Provincial Lacrosse bodies, and our colleagues amongst other Provincial Sport Bodies in Saskatchewan, the SLA has put together a plan that allows us to Return to Lacrosse in a cautious and methodical manner, based on the best available evidence to optimise Association, community safety, and the safety of our athletes.

This document is activity based focused right now as we work on bringing our athletes together to start to get active again and refresh their fundamentals, once the Provincial Government and Provincial health Authorities deem it safe to do so, this documents will include a Return to Competition plan.  This plan will also be updated as guidelines are updated and more phases open.

While this may not be a typical Lacrosse season in Saskatchewan, we are happy to get started and make the best of the months we have left!
